If anybody knows mental anguish, it’s Jesus....
The Bible says that while Jesus was praying for
his disciples, before His arrest, he was suffering from anguish. He knew what
was ahead of Him (the cross) but being in human form, He still experienced all
the human emotions.
Luke 22:44 “And being in anguish, he prayed more
earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.”
I would encourage you to also read Hebrews
5:7-10.
Angels had to come and strengthen Him! So, if
Jesus needed strength to endure, we need strength to endure what we go through!
Newsflash, read all about it! Jesus endured, overcame hell, hold the keys to death
& Hades, and is now seated at the right hand of the Father! Guess what He
is doing right now? He is interceding on our behalf because He is our high
priest!
May is Mental Health Awareness month and I have
been reflecting on what to post. Each time I convince myself to write about
something else, it never seems right. So, I kept coming back to the mental
anguish that Jesus suffered. Most of us, in some capacity, have experienced
mental anguish in our lives. The Merriam-Webster definition for anguish is this:
extreme pain, distress, or anxiety. I can think of multiple calamities that we
all have experienced, with the most recent being the pandemic. We can agree
that it was a world-wide calamity which has residual effects 3 years later. I
cannot even fathom the mental anguish most people went through because of the
pandemic let alone all the other problems that arose from it.
Recently, I’ve been grieving the passing of my
best friend...but that was 2 years ago! I’ve just been like, “God why am I
experiencing it?” Sometimes, grief and
its associated factors are hard to put into words, but you feel it and you can
even see it in someone’s face. Thank God for my family& friends that check
on me, listen to me, encourage me, and pray for me. I know that Jesus cares for
me in my grief state because I will start seeing butterflies, a great reminder
of my friend! Did you know that Jesus experienced grief? After the death of
Lazarus, whom He raised from the dead a brief time later, the Bible says, “he
was deeply moved in spirit and troubled” (John 11:33 NIV) when he saw Mary and
other people weeping over his death. The NLT version states, “a deep anger
welled up within him, and he was deeply troubled”. After asking to see where
they had placed him, “Jesus wept”. He was filled with emotion, the same
emotions we experience today.
We learn in Hebrews 12 that Jesus endured the
cross with joy knowing what the outcome would be. Jesus faced the cross so He
can not only give us eternal life, free us from the grasp of the evil one, but
to make intercession for us. He “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans
to give you hope and a future.” It may not seem like that right now, your
situation might seem bleak in the natural and you may be wondering, when will
it end? But I want to remind you of Jesus the one that faced it all to let you
know that “I AM that I AM. I will be what I will be.” That means Jesus can be
WHAT you need Him to be in your life situation right now. What are you struggling
with? Seek Jesus.
“I pray for your healing
That circumstances will
change
I pray that the fear inside
will flee in Jesus name
I pray that a breakthrough
Would happen today
I pray miracles over your
life in Jesus name
I pray for revival
For restoration of faith
I pray that the dead will
come alive in Jesus name
In Jesus name”

This encouragement is needed in this season. I've been studying the Books of John and Hebrews recently, and being reminded to cling to the One who sees my faith.
