Don’t Wander for 40 Years

Have you ever been around complainers? Answer me this, during your conversations with them, do you find it hard to keep a positive attitude? Well, not only have I been around complainers, but I’ve been one! Full disclosure, I was in a complaining ‘tude earlier this week for two days, ugh . I just couldn’t be comforted, and it was hard to change my perspective. I started complaining on Sunday of all days and it carried to Monday. My father had the privilege of spending the day with me on Monday and my mother was happy she stayed home. LOL. I’m being honest here folks! We got to be honest in order to make a change within ourselves. Have you ever tried to change a complainer’s attitude from pessimism to optimism? How did it work out for you? It was quite difficult for my father to help change my perspective around. He even wondered “what jumped on me” on Sunday. LOL! If you want to know how complaining can shift the direction of your life, then let’s take a look at the journey of th...

How ironic is it that I started going back to the gym on “National Quitters Week?” By the way, I did not realize it was National Quitters Week until I heard about it from listening to The Joshua Mentality podcast. My goal last year was to go to the gym 3x week and at least hit 6,500 steps per day. This goal might seem like nothing to the average avid gym goer and walker, but this was just perfect for me since I was relatively inactive. I was able to track my steps with my Fitbit and I liked the visual example of where I was at reaching my steps goal. There were some weeks that I hit my goal and some weeks I didn’t. I have a gym membership and I can pull up the app and see “my check-ins”. It kept track of my check-ins in 3 ways: it pulled up the calendar and the “check-in” days are circled, a percentage for the “past 30 days”, and a percentage for the month is shown as well. I thought that was a great way to measure my progress towards my goals and I didn’t know this feature exist...

You want me to make a list of my what?

Image
Have you ever been asked to make a list of your  boundaries ? If you haven’t, this blog is for you and if you have, maybe you can give me some pointers in the comments below! I have been dragging my feet about making my list partly because I’ve never been asked “what are your boundaries?” and I could not remember anytime where I talked to someone about overstepping my boundaries. According to the APA Dictionary of Psychology, the definition of boundary is “ a psychological demarcation that protects the integrity of an individual or group or that helps the person or group set realistic limits on participation in a relationship or activity.” I remember doing my 30-day devotional (which I mentioned in a previous blog post) and the entry was about  boundaries  and the activity was to  make a list of my boundaries . I must be completely transparent here and confess that I haven’t completed that list yet. I had been asking God,  why do I have a hard time comple...

The Golden Years

January 2 nd was my parents 52 nd Anniversary and I want to wish them a Happy Anniversary!!! For more than 10 years now, I’ve enjoyed making them an upscale Anniversary dinner and it was something that my sister and I started together. I’m not a gourmet chef but I cook with love. This year Dad wanted it simple because he likes for me to not run around the kitchen busting my derriere so much lol. So, I kept it simple yet with classy ingredients…pictures below 😊 Can you imagine being married to someone for 52 years?? Mom said she could write a book on marriage and I believe her! I don’t think marriage is always a walk in the park but making a lifelong commitment helps to keep it growing. The most important things I’ve learned from their marriage are keeping God at the center of it all, respect, love and sacrifice for each other, communicating, spending time together, and at times giving each other some space. Every now and then, Mom and Dad “date” each other and go out and do t...

The Rhythm of God’s Love

I was part of my friend’s launch team for her book and let me tell you, you’re gonna want to read this and read the book, “Love’s Lost Star” (available where books are sold, I pre-ordered mine from Amazon). I already told my friend about the book but I intentionally left this out until release day. Reading Jason & Cece’s story made me realize that I want to do something different in my walk with God this year. I want to  rest  in the  rhythm of His love . I know that  God is Love  and that he loves me but I want something deeper with Him this year.  Resting in God’s love  means that I want to remain unbothered by life’s circumstances because He is my Shepherd, my Strong Tower, my Shield and my Rampart. I want my soul to rest in that Truth. Jason’s and Cece’s story is about God’s forgiveness, restoration, provision, grace and love for us. How they first met reminded me of a couple dancing for the first time, trying to find their rhythm and on...

Something is different this year!

To be honest with you, I did not want to make any New Year resolutions.  I can’t even begin to tell you why because I don’t even know why. I just sensed that this year would be  different  for me but I couldn’t even begin to tell you how. I looked up the definition to “New Year’s resolution” in Merriam-Webster dictionary: “a promise to do something  differently  in the New Year”. Have you made your New Year’s resolutions yet? Have you thought about what you want to do  differently  this year than last year?   The more I thought about it, I made up my mind to continue what I was doing last year when it comes to my health, but God interjected lol. I’ve been able to manage my diabetes by watching what I eat and exercising. Managing any type of chronic illness is difficult and I’ve learned it takes perseverance, will power, and determination to do so. I am very happy with my blood sugar readings, except for the occasional slip up of eating he...

Unplanned Transitions

I’ve been seeing a lot of memes on social media about the year 2022. I think some of us might agree with this one, “can I see the terms and conditions for 2022?”. We all can say that some parts of years 2020 and 2021 were not what we expected. For the past several days, I’ve been thinking of what title to give year 2021. For some or most of us, it has been a challenging year-a year full of ups & downs, twists and turns, and the occasional smooth or rough landing. I dubbed this year and 2020, unplanned transitions. There were a lot of things that happened in this year that some of us didn’t see coming. Like life literally smacked us in the face and told us we’re number one, if you know what I mean. Some of us faced basic needs & financial woes, relationship, medical, employment, legal, mental challenges, and natural disasters. Let’s not forget the most evident, death of loved ones. I lost 2 people, my grandmother in June and one of my best friends in September.   I ...
